Now the manager of Tuesday’s opponents Gateshead, Steve Watson is a familiar face for the Silkmen. Assistant manager at Macclesfield Town from July 2016, Watson learnt his managerial trade at the club alongside John Askey, before making the switch to the Heed in October 2017. Watson also had a successful playing career, making over 200 appearances for Newcastle United, as well as spells at Aston Villa and Everton.
Scott Barrow, 29, spent one season at Macclesfield Town in the 2014-15 season, but impressed becoming an ever-present in the side and picking up a player of the month award. Barrow moved to the Heed after a spell at Merthyr Town.
Now plying his trade with League One side Shrewsbury Town, James Bolton began his youth career at Stoke City, before joining the Silkmen at 16. He spent time on loan at Workington and Halifax Town as well as making 10 appearances for Macclesfield Town, before moving to Gateshead in 2016. After impressing, Bolton made the step up to League Football making his debut for Shrewsbury Town in August 2017.
The 25-year-old defender has been at Gateshead since May 2017 but had a two-year spell with the Silkmen between 2015 and 2017, including being part of the team that reached the final of the FA Trophy at Wembley last season. Byrne began his career at Nottingham Forest and has also played for Rochdale and Telford United.
