Following the departure of boss John Askey to League One side Shrewsbury Town, club Chairman Mark Blower has released the following message to supporters.

“Obviously we are all really disappointed to see John leave. He has been a huge part of the Football Club over the past few decades and we will always be grateful for what he did for Macclesfield Town.

“We were all excited and looking forward to next season and our return to the EFL and we wanted John to be a big part of that.

“But at the same time we recognise that this is an opportunity that John wanted to take and we didn’t want to stand in his way and prevent him from testing himself at a higher level in the footballing pyramid.

“Now the challenge is to find somebody to continue the work that John has started.  Already we have been inundated with applications and the calibre of the applicants shows that the job is an attractive one.

“It goes without saying that we will assess all of our options at this stage but we want to make the process of appointing a new manager a quick one.”
