Two previous draws against Hartlepool and Bromley perhaps could have resulted in victories for Askey’s men and the manager is targeting a strong campaign in front of the home supporters if his side are to challenge for a place in the top seven this term.

Speaking to ahead of the game, John said: “We didn’t have a good record at home last season and if we could have done we would have ended up in the play-offs.

“This year it is vitally important for us and hopefully on Friday that will be the start of things to come.”

The boss is also hoping that a Friday night game could see a healthy crowd in attendance at the Moss.

He added: “As a player it is nice to play in on a Friday night. It usually generates a decent crowd and a decent game and hopefully the atmosphere will be good on Friday night. “
