The Silkmen started 2018 in the best possible way, as they cruised to a 4-1 victory over FC Halifax Town.
However, manager John Askey isn’t resting on his laurels and thinks that the team need to keep winning and ‘take each game as it comes.’
The squad are currently on a run of ten games without defeat in the Vanarama National League and Askey has been speaking to www.mtfc.co.uk about the need to carry on that run.
“If you keep winning your goal difference will be fine so that’s the main thing we’ve won again and it’s starting to create a gap.” Said Askey.
“We’ve just got to keep going, keep our heads down and take every game as it comes as the old cliché says.
“If you want to win a league you’ve got to go unbeaten, when the run started perhaps one or two people were worried about whether we could last, and there were one or two moans and groans. So, to get on that run and for the players get the confidence they’ve got now is great.
“It’s good for the club, I thought the support was brilliant at Halifax, a lot turned out on New Year’s Day so it’s all looking good, we’ve just got to be a little bit wary about being too pessimistic.”
With another three points in the bank, attentions now turn to Saturday’s clash at home to Solihull Moors and Askey is glad that the team got through the Halifax contest unscathed.
“It’s always tricky picking a team, you’ve just got to pick what you think the best is for the day. But the good thing is today we’ve got a break before Saturday and we got through the game without any injuries so that was a big thing today.
“We go into the Solihull game with virtually everyone fit.
“Our away record is fantastic, and our home record has improved this season.
“I think we’ve lost three away and lost three at home as sometimes it’s a bit tighter at home because teams set up to defend which is difficult to break down.
“We’ll keep going and hopefully things keep going our way.”
