John Askey is aiming to ensure that his side will be stronger from their Edgeley Park experience as they prepare to face League Two side Crewe Alexandra in their next pre-season fixture.

The Macclesfield manager was keen to ensure that the whole squad got some action in the 5-2 defeat, with just two players completing the full 90 minutes.

Tonight will see the Silkmen will face their Cheshire neighbours on the back of the defeat against Stockport County and Askey is keen to ensure that the squad learns from that performance.

He said when speaking to Silkmen TV: “Hopefully we learn from today and it will make us that little bit stronger.

“Hopefully, it will make us realise that sometimes we have to do the other side of the game – it’s not all about pretty football on the deck, it’s about competing in the air, winning the ball back and defending well in your own box.

“Obviously the lads have only played together three times before and it is a relatively new side, but I don’t think we lost at Stockport because of that. It was more about learning from mistakes and one or two that, on another day, we know can do better.

“But now we move on to Crewe and, hopefully, keep everybody fit.”
