After a frustrating result last Saturday, John Askey’s Macclesfield squad are looking to get back to winning ways, at Torquay this weekend.
With players returning from injury, the squad is getting stronger and a full week on the training pitch will only help the squad and Askey in preparation for Saturday’s trip to Plainmoor.
A strong squad can be the key to success in any football team and with the added competition for starting places kicking in, that again will boost performance levels.
Earlier, John Askey took the time to speak to mtfc.co.uk about the competition for places in the squad.
“There’s people waiting in the wings to impress,” he said, “the players know if they don’t perform then there are people that are looking to take their shirts, and that’s the biggest incentive to keep your shirt every week.
“When you’ve got the likes of George Pilkington and Danny Whitehead on the bench. There are players more than capable of coming in and performing.
“We’ve got a week of training now, so it’ll give players who haven’t played a lot of football a chance to play and get some minutes under their belt.
“Hopefully I can see some good performances and it’ll give me something to think about for Saturday.”
