Following Saturday’s opening day win at Wrexham, focus now turns to Tuesday’s first home game of the season as we welcome Hartlepool United to the Moss Rose. After the game against Wrexham, boss John Askey was already looking ahead to our second game in four days.
Speaking to the SilkmenTV he said: “You don’t know how players are going to react as we only have four from last season, you don’t know how it is going to pan out and it is still early days but I’m really pleased with how we started."
It will be a tough test for the Silkmen, with Hartlepool looking to return to the Football League at the first time of asking after their relegation last season. But Askey says his players will go into the game full of confidence after notching their first three points on the board.
“It will be a bit like when we played York last season, but we’ve got them at home and I think they’ve lost today so obviously they’ll be looking to make amends but we’ll go into it with loads of confidence now, it just frees you up a little bit getting that first win.”
Hartlepool lost their National League opener 0-1 to Dover Athletic but Askey says his players are ready for the challenge that will come on Tuesday night, particularly as our squad depth was evident with a very strong bench in the opening game.
“There’s a few more options upfront than we have had previous seasons, we could do with a bit more strength and depth at the back but Adam (Yates) proved there are loans out there, at the moment the squad looks good.”
Tuesday’s match kicks off at 7:45pm at the Moss Rose stadium.
