Askey On Re-arranged Halifax Fixture

A frozen pitch caused Saturday’s FA Trophy game with Halifax to be postponed, and instead the Silkmen will face a trip to Halifax on Tuesday night. The postponement hasn’t helped a busy festive period of fixtures but the Silkmen will be looking to build on their impressive league form to go far in the cup competition.

The winners of the game will face Maidenhead United in the second round if they can overcome Halifax. SilkmenTV spoke to John Askey ahead of the game:

“We were disappointed it wasn’t on but we are looking forward to the game and hopefully we can come back with a win.

“A lot of teams have drawn or had FA Cup games, we have been lucky so far as this is the first one we have had called off so we will just get on with it and hopefully we can get some good results.

"You want to do well in the league and the FA Trophy and we will be going all out to try and win.”

Askey emphasised the need to try and succeed on both fronts this season, and the hope of fielding a strong team, opposed to some of the Silkmen’s National League rivals who have fielded weakened sides for the FA Trophy.

“I went to Wrexham on Saturday and they made a lot of changes, every team is different but I think it is disappointing for the supporters when you do that.”
