John Askey admits that he has been left surprised by the tightness of the League table so far this season.
The win over Torquay United on Saturday saw the Silkmen move up to eighth in the National League. However, Due to the way the League has shaped up, they find themselves just two points behind leaders Sutton United.
So far, just three points separates the league leaders and Leyton Orient in 13th and Askey admitted to Silkmen TV that the table shows that his side can beat anybody on their day.
“I think we’re just behind second, in terms of points, and we’re eighth. It just shows that there is very little between the teams so far and it just goes to show that we can beat anybody.
“We’ve just got to concentrate on ourselves and we must go into every game knowing that we’ve got a great chance of winning.
“The recruitment of Danny Whitehead could be really important. He’s done really well, and, we’ve got a really strong squad in most areas.”
Askey also took time out to mention the support of the away fans at Plainmoor. The fans that made the long trip to the English Riviera were treated to an away day victory and the manager says the away support is something that everybody appreciates.
“The away support has always been good at Torquay,” he said. “They always get behind the team.
“We need to transfer that support now and give them something to shout about at home. We’re all in it together and we all want the same thing, so, hopefully they continue to get behind us.
“I hope they get behind us Saturday and we give them something to shout about because Aldershot are a good team. It’ll be a tough game for us."
