John Askey says he believes his Macclesfield side were unlucky not to progress through to the second round of the FA Cup following defeat at Forest Green Rovers on Saturday afternoon.
The Silkmen created chances and did have a goal ruled out for offside, but came out of the first round tie eventual 1-0 losers.
Speaking after the game, Askey said he thought his side were the better of the two.
“We missed chances and limited them to very few,” he said. “We can’t say we didn’t break them down because we did. We had the ball in the back of the net in the first half but we’ve given away a poor goal. We went to Forest Green and made a good game of it.
“There was nothing in it apart from our own finishing. Looking back on the game, we had most of the chances.
“It’s happened in two or three games now and we need to start finishing. If we don’t we’re going to struggle, we can’t rely on clean sheets. I’m really pleased with how we’re playing though, and anyone who saw our performance will be impressed."
