With the Silkmen on top in the National League, Saturday sees attention switch to the FA Trophy with a trip away to Halifax. Macclesfield Town will play Halifax three times in two weeks and they will provide a tough test.
The Silkmen will be looking to recreate last year’s success in the FA Trophy and go one step further, after last year’s campaign saw them fall at the final hurdle against York after making it all the way to the final at Wembley.
John Askey spoke to SilkmenTV before the game about his hopes for the competition this year and what he expects from Halifax.
He said: “After getting to Wembley last year we are looking forward to the game and want to replicate what we achieved last year and hopefully go on a good run in the cup and it would be great to get back to Wembley. I really enjoyed it apart from the result at the end!
“We play three times in the space of two weeks, so we will know a lot about them by the end of it. Hopefully we can go there and put in another good performance and get the win.
“They have held their own, especially at the start of the season, then they went through a spell of not winning, but the win on Saturday against Aldershot will have given them a lift. We have got to go into the game really positive and keep doing what we have been doing.”
