John Askey admits the circumstances surrounding Tuesday night’s postponement made him feel sorry for the travelling supporters.
Despite the game scheduled to go ahead as planned, the referee decided shortly after 7:20 that an area of the pitch was unsuitable. The game will now have to be rescheduled for the second time this week.
However, the late decision by the match officials meant supporters had already arrived at the ground, including many Macclesfield fans who had travelled the distance.
Askey told Silkmen TV that the situation was less than Ideal for them.
“Obviously, for us, we wanted the game to go ahead, but we’re more disappointed for the supporters, really.
“It’s a situation I’ve not come across before. I’ve seen situations where the weather worsening causes a postponement, but never when it has improved as much as it has in the last week.
“It’s a shame for them. They’ve spent their money to go there and, in the end, finds themselves disappointed. Hopefully, we can repay them when the game is re-scheduled again.
The Macclesfield manager also admitted that the Halifax game was a good opportunity for some of the fringe players in the squad to get their chances, but now they will have to wait for their chance again.
“It was an ideal situation for us. We wanted it to go ahead on both occasions it was called off because there were lads that needed a game. It would have provided that opportunity for us.
“It’s, obviously, disappointing for the lads not to be involved. The whole situation is far from ideal really.”
