Macclesfield spent Christmas top of the pile in the Vanarama National League but on boxing day the squad didn’t rest on their laurels as they carried on their good run of form to beat FC Halifax Town 2-1.
Goals from Danny Whitehead and Tyrone Marsh helped the Silkmen come from behind in the match, cancelling out Tom Denton’s earlier header.
John Askey spoke to www.mtfc.co.uk after the game, and told us that coming from behind gives the team confidence in the future.
“It’s pleasing to come from behind so that gives us confidence in other games if we go behind, we know we can come back to win.” Said Askey.
“I thought we played well and controlled the game for most of the 90 mins, so if we hadn’t won I would’ve been disappointed.”
“They’re always dangerous with Tom Denton up front. His size causes you problems and there’s not a lot you can do when the ball is put in the right area, he’ll always get goals, but it was good we restricted them to few shots.
“On another day if one or two more chances went in we could’ve won by more.”
Askey also praised Tyrone Marsh’s performance and winning goal and the players professionalism over the Christmas period.
“The players haven’t enjoyed themselves too much over Christmas and all credit to them.
“For the winning goal, initially I thought the run from Danny Whitehead was brilliant. He ran abut 60 yards to get to the ball and laid it back to Elliot who put a great ball in and I though Tyrone (Marsh) deserved to get his goal.
“I thought he worked unbelievably well and it was nice to see him get a goal.”
