John Askey has thanked the efforts of players and fans alike for the victory over Wrexham at the Moss on Saturday afternoon.
The game at one point looked as if it could be called off, with snow covering much of the ground despite being covered by protective sheets.
Nonetheless, staff and volunteers alike pulled together to clear the pitch, the game went ahead, and the 4-1 win – as they say – is history.
Speaking after the game, Askey thanked all of those who contributed to getting the game on: “The football club is about everybody,” he said.
“Everyone who contributed on the day – it’s a reward to them really. For them to come out in the freezing cold at 6am pulling off sheets and clearing snow, I’m just pleased for them – I’d like to thank everybody who’s contributed.”
Askey also talked of the contribution of two key players, as Macc overcame the league’s toughest defence in emphatic fashion.
He said: “Scott made it look easy. He was very composed for his first two goals, and the third one he’s reacted so well to the keeper spilling the ball.
“I was really pleased with Kieran, too. He hasn’t played for two or three weeks and he had to step in because George pulled his back in the morning. Kieran did terrific.”
