With the Silkmen sitting top of the National League, Saturday’s FA Trophy provides a chance for some more of the Silkmen squad a chance to impress manager John Askey.
John Askey spoke to SilkmenTV before the game to discuss who may be in contention for some minutes against Halifax, and an update on George Pilkington’s back injury, suffered before the 4-1 victory over Wrexham.
He said: “We have a small squad, but everyone who has been in the squad has been playing well. We are looking at whether I will be able to strengthen the squad and whether the club is able to get the finances to do that.
“George will hopefully not be out for as long as he was last time with his injury and Elliott was suspended so he will be back in the squad this week. There are people who need a game and the cup competition gives us that opportunity so we will have to see today what the best thing to do is to try and get the result.
“The lads who come in have all done well previously so whoever plays will be capable of getting a result. We need to keep the momentum going, wins breed confidence and it only takes one blip so it is important for whoever plays to put in another good performance to keep us going forward. We will need everybody so it is important they show the same attitude as they have all season.”
