The busy Christmas period has eased off in the Vanarama National League and after exiting the FA Trophy on Tuesday night, John Askey’s squad have themselves with a rare weekend off.
Throughout the season the Macclesfield squad has been used to its fullest and the gap between now and our next league game with AFC Fylde will give the squad the chance to regroup and rest some weary legs.
Courtney Richards, Noe Baba and Koby Arthur all featured in the clash with FC Halifax Town and when speaking to Silkmen TV, John Askey said that the whole squad will be needed for the season.
“All the squad are going to be needed, that’s why it’s important that Courtney, Noe and Koby played.” Askey explained.
“They haven’t been playing recently so if they’re needed we’ll have to call on them and at least now we know they’ve had a game and they’ll be ready to go when called upon.”
Askey also spoke about maintaining the squad’s momentum when it comes to the remainder of the season and says that if the players have done this well so far, then they can carry on the good form.
“I said to the players before the game, they’re the ones who got us into this position and if everybody can stay fit and if they can do it after 29 games and get us four points clear why can’t they do it for another 17 games?
“I’m really pleased with the players and the effort they put in, the supporters are really getting behind us and there’s a really good feel factor between the players and supporters and hopefully we can carry that on.
“We’ll stick together, and we’ll fight as hard as we can.”
