HistoryBased in Wesham, just outside of Blackpool, AFC Fylde were founded in 1988 as Kirkham & Wesham. The club earned promotion to the National League for the first time in their short 29-year history last season, after making their way successfully through the lower leagues of English football over the years.Kirkham & Wesham were renamed to today’s better known AFC Fylde in 2008 after the club won the FA Vase in a 2-1 victory over Lowestoft Town at Wembley Stadium in front of nearly 20,000 supporters thanks to goals from 17-year-old substitute Matt Walwyn.The club made two successive play-off appearances in the National League North before they finally earned promotion at the end of the 2016/17 season.Last SeasonAFC Fylde finished top of the table by a clear six points and a significant goal difference over second placed Kidderminster Harriers.They won 26 of their 42 games, drawing 10 and losing only six. They finished with a points total of 88, and were crowned champions with a week still to play in the season.
