Defender on a new challenge after signing a new deal

George Pilkington is hoping he can “bring together” his new team-mates ahead of the new season as John Askey begins to build his new look squad ahead of the 2017/18 campaign. The 35-year-old defender signed a new one year deal to stay with the Silkmen and is hoping his experience will have a positive effect on the new players that come through the door at Moss Rose.George told mtfc.co.uk “We’ve lost some big characters, I wish them all the best. They’re good players I enjoyed working with them but the manager has always done well in the market and brought good players in and hopefully I can be a part of bringing us together and starting the season on the front foot.“As an older more experienced player I’m looking forward to working with the new players in defence and hopefully I can help them along the way and make sure we do the job we’re out there to do.”Pilkington arrived at Macclesfield in 2014 after his release from Mansfield Town and has played an important role in the Silkmen’s defence playing over 140 league games since then and winning the Player of the Year award three times, but he is looking forward to another season as a ‘new challenge’.“We’ve got a few more players to sign along the way but I’m just looking forward to getting started.“The players that come in will be hungry and it’s a new challenge. I’m looking forward to it.”
