Defender David Fitzpatrick discusses his aims for the new campaign
After agreeing a one-year contract extension Monday afternoon David Fitzpatrick was soon looking ahead to the coming season, and what he hopes to achieve with the Silkmen.Speaking to The Silkmen’s YouTube channel he said:“We’ve been pretty similar the last couple of years and obviously cup runs so hopefully we can go that one step further because I know the play-offs have changed to top seven so that gives us a better chance.”The change means an extra team will have the opportunity to reach the play-offs, and the ultimate goal of returning to the Football League. Having finished just outside the play-offs in ninth and tenth in the last two seasons Fitzpatrick knows all about the challenge ahead.“I think it might be a bit unfair on teams at the top of the table but it might suit us down to the ground. It’s getting more competitive as the years go by with teams dropping out of the league so it’s really, really tough to get out of.”With plenty of transfer activity at Moss Rose, Fitzpatrick will be playing alongside some new faces as well as old friends.“The manager has a massive challenge on his hands but I’m sure the players that he brings in will be working as hard as we have in the last couple of years. Getting a fresh squad in might be what’s needed, to freshen things up a little bit. I know a couple of the lads are staying – like Pilks - so they know what it’s about."
