We take a look back at our October in the 2016/17 campaign
October proved to be a busy month for Macclesfield consisting of seven fixtures in total, with newly promoted North Ferriby up first in a month when the two teams would meet twice. A first half Danny Whitaker penalty was enough to take the three points in this outing but it wasn’t all plain sailing for John Askey’s side as a sending off for John McCombe meant they had to play with 10 men for over an hour.Next up was an away trip to Barrow where Neill Byrne left it late to earn a point for the Silkmen. The centre back’s clever flicked finish in the 82nd minute cancelled out Danny Livesey’s opener. However, Town suffered their first defeat in October at the hands of Boreham Wood just 4 days later. A Kenny Davis penalty and a Danny Woodards header saw the away side to a 2-0 win at Moss Rose.It was back to winning ways though as the Silkmen progressed into the FA Cup first round proper after victory away at North Ferriby. A Vinny Mukendi strike gave the hosts the lead but Danny Whitaker equalised to put Macclesfield back on track just before half time. Macc turned on the style in the second half as they romped past the hosts with goals from Holroyd, Mackreth and a second from Whitaker to win the game 4-1 and set up a tie against Walsall in the next round. The return to league football saw two draws against tough opposition. A last-minute Chris Holroyd strike away to 2nd place Dagenham, cancelling out a Fejiri Okenabirhie opener, earnt an impressive 1-1 draw, whilst Danny Rowe hit the woodwork twice in a 0-0 draw with in-form Chester at Moss Rose, In a game of few chances. However, the month ended with defeat as the Silkmen were beaten 2-1 away to Maidstone. Holroyd opened the scoring for Macc after just 8 minutes but goals from Liam Enver-Marum and a last gasp Yemi Odubade strike stole all three points for Maidstone against the run of play, leaving Macclesfield 10th in the table at the end of October.
