The manager's thoughts on the FA Trophy Final at Wembley

John Askey believes his players can hold their heads high after a strong performance against York City in the Buildbase FA Trophy Final. The Silkmen looked the better side throughout the game at Wembley, which was won in the dying moments by York, and were unlucky not to come away with the trophy.Speaking after the game, Askey credited the players on their performance, and admits it was simply not meant to be on the day.“I was proud of how the players performed, I think even though we restricted them to very few chances it just wasn’t meant to be today. I was pleased with how we played, I thought we created a lot of chances and on another day we’d have won – the prime example I think was towards the end when Kingsley had a shot and it was cleared off the line”.Askey also noted the huge turnout in the capital from the Silkmen fans, and believes that the result can help the club build going into next season.“At the moment it hurts, but I was really pleased with the turnout of the Macclesfield supporters, it’s such a great effort from the town. I just hope now that more people can get behind the club and it can push us on to better things, as once you come here you want to come back and that’ll be the case next season”.
