Patrick: "We Want To Do Justice To Richard's Memory"

4 September 2020

Patrick Birch sat down with Silkmen TV on Monday to discuss the latest developments at the Club, including the latest plans for Butch’s Bar and the progression on the commercial front.

The renovation of Butch’s Bar has been on the agenda for some time, with the Club actively seeking to make progress on this front ahead of next season.

“The first thing is, we want to bring the existing Butch’s Bar to the ground, we are seeking quotes for that at the present time.

“If there is anyone out there who can help us with that, obviously we would be looking to reward those who do with advertising around the ground.

“We have got an idea of bringing in a portacabin into that area in the immediate future where we can at least be serving drink and food, and again get Richard’s name associated with that as an immediate measure.

“That would be important over that side of the ground, that people do have a facility which they didn’t have last season.

“Whether we can get that going from the very first game is obviously dependant on finding people who can actually help us do those two things.

"Bringing the existing one to the ground or help us get this portacabin into the ground and set up and working well.”

The Club are committed to working towards a more substantial memorial for Richard’s memory in the longer-term, with the Silkmen Supporters Trust working with the Club to help make this happen.

“Then I am looking to work with the Supporters Trust, into the longer-term plan for Butch’s bar, which will obviously be a more substantial operation.

“Again we will be looking for others to come in and help us fund that, but will create that really good fan experience over at that side of the ground, and we want Richard’s name associated with that and to do justice to his memory.”

On the commercial front, the Silkmen welcomed Ellie Reynolds to the Club as Commercial Manager last month; and Patrick was keen to praise the work she has done in her short time at the Moss so far.

“Ellie has been talking to sponsors, and again when we talk to sponsors, the first thing we have got to say in many cases is look, there are things to apologise for with things that have happened in the last one or two years and things have got to be different going forward.

“I think finding that so many people have still got that love for the club, yes in certain circumstances they want clarity in terms of how that money or any money they invest is actually going to be used.

“We need to demonstrate how that is going to be used for the benefit of the football team and the Club.

“Ellie is absolutely fired up with that, and she is talking to people now and events are planned in the next couple of weeks to actually bring people in to tell them where we are at and where we are going; and to encourage them to come on that journey with us.”

Finally, Patrick spoke to when fans can expect the sale of season tickets to start for the 2020/21 season.

With a reduced capacity likely to be in place for the duration of next season, Patrick admitted this route is the most sure-fire way for those looking to attend our home fixtures to secure their seats ahead of time.

“The other one is season tickets as well, today is the day where people feed back about what they want to do with their previous seasons’ season tickets with various rebates and if they wanted that against their current year season ticket.

“The season is starting on October 3rd so it is time for us to get those season tickets out, and we understand that is a challenging environment right now to be doing this, but this is an hour of need for the club, so where people can and where people feel they are able to, we are really keen to see people invest in those season tickets.

“We will do what we can with the relatively short window with an early bird discount, and the other thing I would like to flag up is, in this time of COVID, the more we know about the people coming into the ground in advance of the game, the easier it is.

“For individuals there will be some complications about getting tickets to matches - and one of the easiest ways of securing your ticket is to get a season ticket.
