My Greatest Silkmen XI: Harry Stokes

5 May 2020

Throughout the years, Macclesfield Town have been blessed with an array of phenomenal players and we are now asking you to name your greatest-ever Silkmen side.

In this next instalment, Harry Stokes picks his best XI -

GOALKEEPER - KIERAN O'HARA

Consistent, a very good goalkeeper and a key asset to us staying up last season.

RIGHT BACK - JARED HODGKISS

Captained us to the National League title and was the most under-rated player of our title-winning side

CENTRE BACK - GEORGE PILKINGTON

A solid centre back, who will always win a lot of aerial battles and another of the title-winning squad

CENTRE BACK - FIACRE KELLEHER

Massively improved throughout this season and has developed into a great centre-back who scores the occasional goal too!

LEFT BACK - DAVID FITZPATRICK

Very consistent left-back who has made over 200 Silkmen appearances. A key part of our title-winning season and a dependable player in the EFL.

LEFT WING - ELLIOTT DURRELL

Likes to whip crosses and he did it at the Moss! Such a speedy, creative winger who scored some amazing goals - especially the one against Cambridge last year to keep us up!

CENTRE MIDFIELD - DANNY WHITAKER

How can I not include a club legend in my greatest Silkmen XI? It's just not possible to leave Danny Whit out!

Our Magic Man made over 400 appearances and scored some top quality goals along the way - a true Macc Town hero!

CENTRE MID - OLLIE NORBURN

Only spent one season at Macc, but what a season it was!

Ollie scored against Tranmere to book our Wembley place and an absolute screamer in the Final - despite losing 3-2 to York!

RIGHT WING - DANNY ROWE

Tricky, pacey and quality player for us - who thouroughly deserved his move to Ipswich Town!

STRIKER - KRISTIAN DENNIS

Returned to the Moss Rose to spend the 2015-16 season with us on loan from Stockport County.

A quality forward who scored goals for fun at Macc!

STRIKER - SCOTT WILSON

Poacher who liked a tap-in and a few occasional belters - like his first goal against Notts County last season and his first ever Macc goal against Sutton!

MANAGER - JOHN ASKEY

Club legend who played for Macc when they went up to the EFL for the first time and led us back to the EFL in 2018!

Played in the EFL, scored for fun and is an utter club legend!
