Joe Ironside’s smart finish alongside Jay Harris’ thunderbolt proved to be enough for the Silkmen to take another vital point away at Vale Park on New Years Day.
The striker’s 57th minute effort put Macc into the lead after they trailed at half-time, but Joe admitted that they need to score more goals if they stand any chance of picking up more points.
He said: “We went into half time one-nil down but we knew that we could get back into the game, then we’ve come back out and put ourselves in front. However, we didn’t keep hold of the game and we’ve come away with the draw.”
“It could’ve been more than a point today, I thought we played brilliantly. We kept hold of the ball well, we moved it around well and created some clear cut chances.”
“Obviously not all of them has gone in it’s encouraging that we scored twice today because as a team, we need to score more goals. The defence has been doing their job but the more goals that we score, the bigger chance we have of winning games.”
Joe reflected upon a difficult festive period by thanking the vocal support that travelled to the Potteries, something helped to drive the team forward throughout -
“The busy Christmas period is part of football, so we just roll our sleeves up and we get through it. You want to play games and that’s what we’ve been doing, but hopefully now we’ll pick up some more points.”
“The Silkmen fans today were brilliant. They’ve travelled in their numbers, and we really needed them. They helped us get in front but sadly we’ve only come away with a point. They’re top fans.”
