Tuesday evening saw us make the long after-school trip to South Wales. Our destination - Rodney Parade, home of Newport County.
It was a bitterly cold evening when we arrived before kick-off. I saw the team announced and I was instantly a little warmer. Especially after some very hot chips had been eaten, with a great view of the team warming up!
I looked around the stand just before kick off and although small in numbers I just knew it’s going to be a very noisy support pushing the boys in blue on!
Newport got the game underway and were attacking the goal furthest from us. They started at a frantic pace and their long throws which were like corners caused our defensive line all sorts of problems.
In the 15th minute Arthur Gnahoua's effort went just wide after a touch from Newport’s ‘keeper.
Macc stood stromg until the 34th minute, when Newport’s pressure was rewarded when Joss Labadie opened the scoring.
It was worrying to see Ben Stephens leave the field in the 38th minute with what looked like a injury. Theo Archibald taking his place.
Jonathan Mitchell pulled of some fabulous saves to keep the ball out of his net, whilst at the other end of the pitch Joe Ironside was denied by the Newport 'keeper.
If I thought it was cold before the game the temperature dropped even further at half-time. The second half kicked off and once again Newport who started the brighter of the two teams.
Although the team continued to battle in search of an equaliser, it just wasn’t meant to be.
On to Northampton at the Moss on Saturday.
See you there!
