Tuesday evening saw our eagerly awaited re-arranged Cheshire derby fixture at home against Crewe Alexandra.
Ahead of Mark Kennedy's first home game in charge we welcomed not one but two new players in Jonathan Mitchell and Danny Whitehead which was brilliant to see.
Both players went straight in to the team, with what was a very attacking looking starting eleven.
It’s a miserable foggy January evening, but following the news of our signings I was absolutely bouncing for kick-of fto arrive.
Crewe got the game underway and they were attacking the Star Lane End. Despite their position in the league it was Macclesfield who had the majority of possession and chances in the opening period of play.
Despite this the gloomy evening worsened when on the 24th minute Jak McCourt left the field of play due to what appeared to be a injury and was replaced by Ben Stephens.
Macc continues to press and looked positive on the attack - making Crewe’s defenders look a little unsettled.
Just before half-time we made the breakthrough when Paul Green put the ball in the back of his own net.
Connor Kirby got the second half underway and Macc continued to positively attack the Crewe goal without adding to the score.
Crewe then came in to the game more and more had multiple chances to draw level.
Our whole defensive line were throwing their bodies everywhere to block the ball and defend our lead!
Heartbreakingly, Crewe finally found away through with virtually the last kick of the game and the game ended all square.
We now look to Forest Green on Saturday, when we will be going for the three points once again.
See you there!
