Opposition View: Colchester United (A)

17 January 2020

The Silkmen make the long trip down to Essex tomorrow, as we take on ninth placed Colchester United in Sky Bet League Two.

Newly appointed Head Coach, Mark Kennedy will be hoping Macc can end Colchester United’s 12-game league unbeaten streak as he takes charge of his first match at the helm.

John McGreal’s side are on an impressive run in the league, not losing since their one nil home defeat against Morecambe on October 19. Since then, the U’s have picked up five wins and seven draws, which sees them sit in ninth position on 41 points, just three points off Forest Green Rovers in seventh.

Despite Colchester United’s unbeaten run in the league, they will be slightly disappointed with their last three draws. McGreal’s side started 2020 with a 1-1 draw against Crawley Town, they followed this up with a 0-0 against rock-bottom Stevenage and a 1-1 draw against Morecambe.

Opposition Manager Comments:

McGreal said on the club’s website: "The crowds, home and away, have been excellent so far and we'll need them right with us in the next few months."

"We've got two matches here at the JobServe Community Stadium in the next few days, so I want to hear lots of noise again in both matches from the home fans."

Injuries and Suspensions:

Ryan Jackson is suspended for the match this weekend. The right-back has been a stalwart in the U’s side, appearing 23 times this season.

Brendan Wiredu and Cohen Bramall are both out through injury.
