Saturday saw us back at the Moss Rose for our first home encounter of 2020, when we welcomed Cambridge United.
The man with the magic hat, Danny Whitaker took charge following the recent departure of Daryl McMahon and Steve Gritt.
The team news was announced and the only change saw Emmanuel Osadebe replaced by Corey O’Keeffe. Personally following this announcement I’m even more excited for kick off after seeing how well Corey and Connor linked up together at Vale Park on New Year’s Day!
It’s also great to see Harvey and Jack walk out with the team prior to kick-off as our mascots.
The moments ticked down and finally it was time for kick off and what a start it was when Macclesfield were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area. Both Jak McCourt and Arthur Gnahoua hovered over the ball to take it, before it was sweetly struck by Arthur cheekily firing it past the Cambridge goalkeeper's near post in the 5th minute.
It was plain to see our team was playing with a defiant confidence and a sense of no fear in front of goal that I’d not seen for a while. Attempts on goal coming from players all of the pitch in the first twenty minutes of play.
Cambridge had their first attempt on Owen Evans goal at around this time and it was cooly dealt with by our captain Kelleher!
This was a fierce, defiant first half performance by our team and they deservedly went in to the break 1-0 up.
Our warriors in blue took to the pitch for the second half and continued it as they finished the first full of grit, determination, unbreakable togetherness full of confidence.
Once again on the 55th minute our heroes had the ball in the back of the net, before it was cruelly disallowed for a apparent off side seen by the linesman.
Moments after Cambridge had their best opportunity of the game when they hit the post from close range.
The game finished 1-0 Macclesfield rewarding a passionate, loyal, determined, fearless team with three well deserved points!
When the odds are and continue to be stacked against our team, it is even more important that we all stand firmly together.
See you against Oldham!
