Silkmen 'A' Side Set For Doncaster Trip

25 February 2020

Macclesfield Town under-19s 'A' side travel to the Keepmoat Stadium tomorrow, as they face fourth-place Doncaster Rovers in the EFL CEFA North Central One League.

The young Silkmen side boast an unbeaten record in the league so far - winning five of their opening six fixtures and securing one-all draw against current leaders, Sheffield Wednesday.

The South Yorkshire side are at the league summit by virtue of a single goal and as such, Paul McGuire's side are well in contention to claim silverware this season.

In contrast, Doncaster are looking to secure their first win in five league games.

They have experienced a rather inconsistent campaign, after starting the season strongly by beating Shrewsbury Town 7 - 2.

A 4 - 0 defeat against The Silkmen followed, before Doncaster went on a six-game unbeaten run in the league and cup - winning five of those games including an emphatic 14-0 victory over Manchester City back in October.

The A team will be looking to Tyler James to continue his fantastic record of twenty goals in twelve games ahead of the game and there is no doubt that he possesses the talent to cause problems for any team at this level.

Victory for the Silkmen would see them progress to nineteen points and it would then be all eyes on the Steel City Derby to see if Sheffield Wednesday can gain maximum points against Sheffield United.

McGuire’s side will have to make do without the ever-present Connor Seymour after an injury forced him off in the last game against Nottingham Forest. They will also have to make late fitness calls on Rocco Fregapane and Lewis Price, as they too took knocks in the previous game.

These two teams last met each other back in September as a strong second-half performance swept Doncaster aside by four goals to nil.

An opening goal from Josh Clegg followed by a hat-trick from Tyler James handed the Silkmen A side all three points on the opening day of the season.
