Tuesday evening saw us in action once again - this time for a home fixture against Plymouth Argyle.
I took up my usual spot and looked over the away end - the Plymouth fans really had traveled some miles especially for an evening game!
The visitors got the game underway and we were defending The Star Lane End in the first half.
Macc started attacking the Plymouth goal positively straight from kick-off. I really did lose count off how many shots we had on goal during the opening moments.
As the half continued, Plymouth appeared to settle in to the game a little more - yet Macc were certainly keeping the visiting goalkeeper and defensive line busy.
Our breakthrough came in the 33rd minute when Danny Whitehead played the ball into Shilow Tracey. Shilow kept his cool and put the ball into the back of the net for his first goal in a Macclesfield shirt.
Macc continued to press the visitors with a confidence I hadn’t seen for a while. Sadly we were unable to add to our goal tally and went in to the break 1-0 up.
The Silkmen got the second half underway and Plymouth started the half much more positively as they attacked Jonathan Mitchell’s goal.
The Macc players were throwing themselves in front of passes, crosses and shots from Plymouth - fighting to keep their lead.
In the 82nd minute Plymouth was awarded a penalty. Jonathan Mitchell blocked it but couldn’t hold on to what looked like a powerful shot and the re-bound was tucked in to the back of our net.
The game therefore finished as a one-all draw.
We now look to Saturday and what I’m sure will be another tough test against Crewe.
See you there!
