Match Preview: Leyton Orient vs Macclesfield Town

8 February 2020

The Silkmen make the journey south to the capital as we prepare to take on Leyton Orient at the Breyer Group Stadium in Sky Bet League Two action.

This afternoon’s game marks our tenth visit to Leyton Orient; with our last visit coming in the memorable 2017/18 National League campaign, with Scott Wilson scoring the winner.

You can read more about that match here.

Last Time Out

The reverse fixture was played back in August 2019, with Sol Campbell overseeing a comfortable 3-0 victory in our first home match of the season.

Theo Archibald opened his Silkmen account with a memorable strike, before Emmanuel Osadebe and Theo Vassell capped off a memorable afternoon.

Recent Form

Orient come into the game on the back of a convincing 3-0 victory away at struggling Stevenage, with Ruel Sotiriou scoring either side of an Ousseynou Cisse goal.

Their last home game also ended in victory as the O's secured a 2-1 victory against promotion chasing Newport County at the backend of January.

A home draw against Northampton Town and away defeats against Port Vale and Crewe round out an inconsistent spell of form for Orient; who find themselves in eighteenth position in the Sky Bet League Two standings as a result of accumulating 34 points from their 31 matches.

Ones to Watch

Josh Wright has been Orient’s most important player this season, scoring eight goals and adding a further four assists from his central midfield base.

Having joined from Bradford City in August 2019, the 30-year-old boasts a plethora of EFL experience and is currently in his second spell at Orient after a stint at the club during the 2014/15 campaign.

Jordan Maguire-Drew has also been crucial to Orient’s survival bid this season, with the winger scoring six goals and contributing three assists in his 24 league outings to date.

View from The Dugouts

Mark Kennedy had this to say when speaking to Silkmen TV ahead of the game:

"I'm looking forward to it, we are excited," he said.

"A big plus for us is that the transfer window is closed so we have finally settled down.

"We have managed to get a couple of players out and a couple of players in.

"For the first time since I've been here we have actually had time on the grass, so we have had a really good week and we are looking forward to continuing that into tomorrow."

Meanwhile, opposition Head Coach Ross Embleton was pleased with the shape of his squad going into this afternoon's game, having made a number of additions during the January window:

"It's taken us a little bit longer than we wanted it to, obviously we got Lawrence done quickly, Cisse not long after him and the same with George Marsh," Embleton said.

"I think what we've now managed to do is create competition for places and once these boys come back we've got a packed and healthy squad."
