The Last Time We Visited Leyton Orient

4 February 2020

The last time that Macclesfield Town made the long trip down to East London to face Leyton Orient was back in October 2017 and ahead of Saturday's return, we take a look back at a memorable afternoon for The Silkmen.

Due to the blustery conditions which caused several advertising hoardings to become loose, the game was delayed by ten minutes and when the action did get underway, it was the hosts who unquestionably started the brighter of the two sides.

John Askey's side lost goalkeeper Shwan Jalal in the opening exchanges and he was replaced by Sam Ramsbottom, who was making his debut for the club.

Ramsbottom pulled off a string of fine saves to keep Orient at bay and these gained added significance right on the stroke of half-time when Scott Wilson gave Macc a one-nil interval lead.

The expected barrage of Orient pressure in the second half failed to really materialise, although Ramsbottom continued to deny the home side with a series of smart saves late on.

It was an inspired victory for Askey's men and undoubtedly one of the standout performances in what proved to be a fairytale season.
