Donovan Wilson Signs For The Silkmen

8 February 2020

Macclesfield Town are delighted to announce the signing of highly-rated striker Donovan Wilson, who joins the club on a free transfer until the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

The 22-year-old is described as a pacey forward, who has strong physical attributes and is an undoubted threat in front of goal.

Donovan began his footballing journey within the youth setup at Bradley Stoke United, before signing for Bristol Rovers at the tender age of seven.

After progressing through the club's academy for ten years, Donovan proceeded to sign a one-year professional deal at the Memorial Stadium in May 2014.

Despite failing to make an first team appearance for The Pirates, Donovan's undeniable potential rendered him a much sought-after target for some of the country's biggest names.

Wolverhampton Wanderers would ultimately win the race to secure his signature and after an initial loan spell, Wilson's Molineux move was made permanent in January 2015.

Donovan became a prolific force within the Wolves Under-23s side and went on to sign an eighteen-month contract extension in December 2016.

Two months later, he made his debut for the club - coming on as a 78th minute substitute during an FA Cup tie against Chelsea.

Wilson scored his first senior goal in August 2017, when he helped Nuno Espirito Santo's side secure a memorable EFL Cup victory away at Premier League side, Southampton.

Two months later, Donovan signed a three-year extension to his deal - before heading out on loan to Port Vale.

Eight appearances and one goal later Donovan returned to Molineux, before embarking on another loan spell in August 2018 - this time at Spanish Segunda Division B side, Jumilla.

Wilson scored six goals in sixteen appearances during what proved to be a highly-successful loan period, before returning to Wolves and subsequently completing a short-term loan at Exeter City.

Donovan returned to Spain last summer, as he made the permanent move to Segunda Division B side, Burgos.

Donovan will be claiming the number twenty shirt and is eligible for this afternoon's game at Leyton Orient.

Here is his first interview as a Macclesfield Town player -

We would like to welcome Donovan to Macclesfield Town and wish him every success during his time at the Moss Rose.
