Saturday saw us entertain Keith Curle's Northampton at the Moss Rose and to make this extra special, I was lucky enough to be one of the mascots alongside Zach and Jack.
It was exciting to meet the players again, as well as our new management team - everyone was so nice, even the officials for the game!
Zach happily led the team out with Captain Kelleher, Jack alongside his favourite Ben Stephens and I got to walk alongside my favourite, David Fitzpatrick.
Northampton got us underway and were attacking Jonathan Mitchell’s goal towards the Star Lane End of the ground.
Worryingly, Northampton settled in to the game quickest - with their first opportunity on goal coming within the first ten minutes.
In the 16th minute Macc had their first real opportunity of the game when Connor Kirby's shot from the area looked to be heading into the net - until Northampton somehow managed to scramble it from the goal line.
A few more half-chances which fell to Arthur Gnahoua followed - but they were all safely held by the Northampton 'keeper.
The half ended nil-nil, but sadly I have to say that Northampton had the better of the half and stopped us playing our game!
On 58 minutes, a close range shot from Northampton found its way through the Macclesfield defence to put the visitors into the lead.
Our team continued to look for a way through the Northampton defence - who really closed the game out after going in front.
Sadly, it wasn't to be and we had to suffer our second home league defeat of the season.
We move on to next Saturday's game at Leyton Orient - it is another long trip for us but I am sure that there will be plenty of noise to cheer the players on!
See you there!
