Macclesfield Town Elite Development Squad travel to Cheshire Premier Division side Poynton FC in the Academy's opening pre-season game
After a four-month absence, Macclesfield Town EDS finally have the opportunity to get back playing football. Their last game was way back on Wednesday 11th March and it was a tight affair away to Shrewsbury Town where the young Silkmen came out 3-2 victors after a last-minute penalty from Tyler James.
Poynton, who ply their trade in the Cheshire League last had a game back on Saturday 7th March at home to Billinge FC. It was the visitors who came away with all three points that day thanks to a Marios Avraam second-half goal.
Before the enforced end to the season, Poynton occupied 9th place on 24 points, thirteen points off top spot with four games in hand.
Ahead of the game, academy coach Daniel Whiting discussed his excitement of getting back to a sense of normality with the game on Saturday.
“I can’t wait to get back into it, seeing the lads back playing has sent a real feel good factor around the Academy.
“Poynton will provide us with a tough, physical test which will be good for the lads. We have some external lads playing like Callum Knight and Amadou Doumbouya which will supplement the team as well."
