We start our look back at the 2019/20 season so far by taking your right back to the opening month.
After retaining our league status on the final day of the 2018/19 campaign, a new look Silkmen side were set to take on the new season with no less than sixteen players joining the club in the summer window.
Fiacre Kelleher, who had spent the previous season on loan at the club, signed permanently and would go on to be named captain for the forthcoming campaign.
Matchday 1: Exeter City 1 v 0 Macclesfield Town (03/08/19)
Our 2019/20 season kicked-off on the south coast against promotion hopefuls Exeter City.
Ben Stephens and Joe Ironside were both denied by last ditch interventions from the Exeter backline during the game, before Nicky Law’s cross rebounded off Ryan Bowman and past Owen Evans to win the game for the Grecians in a frustrating finale at St. James’ Park.
Matchday 2: Macclesfield Town 3 v 0 Leyton Orient (10/08/19)
The Silkmen bounced back from the disappointment of the opening weekend by comfortably dispatching newly promoted Orient in our first home game of the campaign.
Theo Archibald, Emmanuel Osadebe and Theo Vassell all scored on their home debut’s with Archibald’s fantastic curling effort staking an early claim for Goal of the Season.
Matchday 3: Northampton Town 1 v 2 Macclesfield Town (17/08/19)
Our second away trip of the season saw us travel to the PTS Community Stadium, and it would prove to be a match to remember with Theo Archibald once again impressing.
The young Scotsman slid the ball through to Ben Stephens to give us the advantage going into the break, before netting the winner in second half stoppage time after Jordan Turnbull had equalised for the hosts.
Matchday 4: Macclesfield Town 0 v 1 Morecambe (20/08/19)
We would suffer our second defeat of the campaign on a cold Tuesday evening at Moss Rose.
Ritchie Sutton’s second half header proved decisive, despite Macc creating a host of chances, with Theo Archibald and Fiacre Kelleher both hitting the woodwork for the Silkmen in Daryl McMahon’s first game in charge.
Matchday 5: Macclesfield Town 1 v 0 Scunthorpe United (24/08/20)
Joe Ironside converted from the penalty spot to secure our first league victory under McMahon after Corey O’Keeffe was fouled in the area midway through the second half.
George Miller struck the crossbar for the visitors before Ironside’s opener, whilst Joe was denied a second as Rory Watson produced a fantastic double save to deny him and Emmanuel Osadebe at the other end as the Silkmen looked to make sure of the points.
Matchday 6: Stevenage 2 v 2 Macclesfield Town (31/08/20)
Joe Ironside’s late penalty ensured we would come away from the Lamex Stadium with a point after a breathless encounter.
The hosts attacked from the off but were caught off guard when Osadebe intercepted a poor pass before sliding the ball through to Ben Stephens, who made no mistake from close range to hand us an unlikely lead.
Two goals in three second half minutes looked to have turned the game on its head as Kurtis Guthrie and Luther James-Wilden netted for Stevenage, before Ironside stepped up to rescue a point with five minutes to play.
