Recently, we asked all our loyal fans to get in touch with us and let us know what their favourite memory involving The Silkmen is. In the next instalment in a series of recollections, Daniel Charlton takes us back to an incredible derby-day fixture with Crewe Alexandra back in 2019.
I have experienced many great memories watching The Silkmen over the years - but when I look back to recent times, the one which stands out is the 3 - 3 draw with Crewe Alexandra last season.
What an incredible game that was!
With it being a local derby, emotions were always going to be running high - but the game itself really did turn it into a phenomenal afternoon.
When Reece Cole's 98th minute equaliser flew into the back of the net, I thought that the roof was going to be blown off Star Lane!
Due to the fact that Crewe had scored literally seconds before, they thought that they had won it and in true derby fashion, they were taunting us a bit after they took a late lead.
In fact when I think about it now, I was stood behind the Crewe dugout and their manager gave us a rye smile when they looked to have claimed maximum points.
Fair play to him in a way, because he had been given the usual dose of banter that day and I would have done exactly the same!
Yet when Reece smashed home that glorious drive, it was pure ecstasy - which said so much about that team and also our fight to preserve our EFL status in general.
I know it sounds a little bit bizarre, but many of my favourite memories are from times when we didn't win games. Some of the away days that I have been to have been amazing - irrespective of what has happened on the pitch.
I guess watching macc does have an infectious side to it and much of this is due to the fact that supporting your hometown club means so much more than if we chose to follow one of the more glamorous Premier League sides on our doorstep.
There is something romantic about being the underdog more often than not and when you go through all that we do alongside your mates each and every Saturday, then who could ask for any more!
Let's hope that we are back in the terraces soon and we can all create some more fabulous memories whilst cheering on our beloved Silkmen side!
