Wow. Reice Charles-Cook’s Silkmen march into the final 16 of the STAY INtertoto Cup after a comprehensive FIFA schooling of Morecambe.
Macc smashed ten goals in a rout of the Shrimps, who finished top of Group A, with Donovan Wilson and Joe Ironside smashing in hattricks over the tie.
The first leg was a much tighter affair than the aggregate score line may suggest with Morecambe hitting the post on multiple occasions and forcing good stops out of Reice Charles-Cook.
The Silkmen took the lead through Kirby but found themselves behind at the break following goals from O’Sullivan and Wildig.
Reice obviously gave a stern teamtalk at half time with Macc firing on all cylinders once the game resumed. Gnahoua bagged almost immediately after the restart before Ironside retook the lead with a smart volley.
Ironside would tap in his second in the closing stages of the game to ensure Macc took a 4-2 lead back to the Moss Rose.
And this is where the fun really stared. Donovan Wilson extended the lead early on before Miller nicked what would be Morecambe’s final goal of the tie.
Wilson had the had the hunger for goals and he scored another two either side of Stephens to make it eight on aggregate, but we were not done yet.
Ironside notched once more and Tracey completed the rout late on to make it ten goals to the Silkmen.
Macclesfield Town are one step closer to painting Wembley Stadium blue once again. All together now… “Reice Charles-Cook’s Blue Army…”
