Macclesfield Town’s STAY INtertoto Cup campaign gets underway at 5pm this evening, as the Silkmen, under the control of Reice Charles-Cook, take on Patrick Roberts’ Middlesbrough.
The Silkmen will be looking to turn around their fortunes against Boro; they’ve lost both of their meetings against the Teesiders. Middlesbrough have the greater squad on paper and they boast a few former Premier League names in their team, including Stay Intertoto Cup manager Patrick Roberts. However, as we all know, you don’t win any football matches on paper.
Without further ado, here’s who we will be coming up against.
Meet the Manager (of the controller)
On loan from Manchester City, Patrick Roberts will be hoping he can pick up his first few points as controller of Middlesbrough. The 23 year-old was bought by City from Fulham, who paid a £12 million fee for his services. A fruitful loan spell at Celtic followed where he helped to guide the Glasgow club to its sixth consecutive league title.
After a number of loan spells in Spain and England, he now finds himself in the North again; this time under the stewardship of Jonathan Woodgate (yes, in real life).
Roberts has been in the game for a number of years and had an impressive overall potential of 85 in FIFA 15, which made him one of the most sought after youngsters in Career Mode.
Middlesbrough have a strong squad in FIFA with a number of young, pacey prodigies in their team. Roberts may revert to a formation with wingers, allowing himself to field, well, himself.
Ravel Morrison is the dangerman, a well-rounded attacking midfielder that could cause some damage to the Silkmen backline.
The speed of Boro’s team will cause problems for Macc, especially with an attack of Ashley Fletcher and Britt Assombalonga, so Reice will have to adjust his Silkmen accordingly.
The Boro are surely second favourites to win the group, so a draw in this game would be a good result all in all.
Tune in to our Twitter channel (@thesilkmen) at 5pm and let’s hope Reice can pull off some magic!
