Tyler James: "We Will Give Him Every Opportunity"

7 April 2020

Tyler James has undoubtedly caught the eye of many people during his first year at Macclesfield Town Football Academy - scoring an incredible thirty-three goals in twenty-four games across the under 18's, 19's and 21's levels.

Since joining the Macclesfield Town Football Academy, Tyler has come on leaps and bounds and has been rewarded by going to train with the first team on several  occasions.

In the EFL CEFA League Tyler has excelled. He has managed to find the net twenty-four times in just fifteen games, - which is 32.6% of the total number of goals that the A team have scored this season - no mean feat!

He netted in some crucial games - including a hat-trick against Birmingham City in an exciting 3-3 draw and a late winner against Nottingham Forest in the quarter-finals of the EFL CEFA North Cup.

His fantastic performances then gained him an opportunity in the under 21's side. In his eight games, he managed to score six goals - including a double against St Helen's Town in a 5-0 victory at Platt Lane.

We caught up with the Silkmen's Youth Development Manager Paul McGuire for his thoughts on the lethal front man.

"Tyler was actually the first player I scouted for our new Academy at a year 11 school match back in 2018.

"I went down to watch Chorlton High v Burnage High and he stood out straight away.

"He certainly looked raw, but you could just see that he had that little something - especially in front of goal.

"I then worked hard to get him down to a few sessions along with a few other lads he knew and he started to become a Macc Town player. He's as good a finisher as I've seen in nearly 20 years of working in youth development and he brings a cutting edge to any team he features in.

"There's no doubt that there's areas he needs to improve; his hold up play, back to goal stuff and physically he'll get a lot stronger - but this will come.

"Hopefully he'll be with us for another few years at least and we can see if he can develop into a mature, well rounded senior player for the club. Time will tell, but I think I can speak for all the coaches at the club in that we'll give him every opportunity.

"There is certainly a lot of room for optimism at what this young man can achieve!"
