The Silkmen turn their attention to Leasing.com Trophy action this evening, as we welcome John Askey back to the Moss Rose with his Port Vale side.
After Saturday’s narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of Grimsby Town, Daryl and the team will look to bounce back against Vale as we look to make it two wins from two in this competition after overcoming Newcastle’s U21s at the beginning of the month.
Speaking after Saturday's match at Grimsby Town, Daryl stressed the need to push on and a desire to see an improvement to our recent form.
“I don’t want us to meander along like a mid-table team, I think we’ve got a chance to really develop across the season but the players have to want it too.”
We hope to see as many of you as possible make it down to the Moss this evening to welcome John back to the club and push our lads onto another positive result in this competition.
Our visitors come into the match after securing a point following a late comeback which sealed a 2-2 draw against Mansfield Town on Saturday.
Vale also won their opening game in this competition, a 2-1 home success over League One Shrewsbury, placing even more significance on this evening’s match.
However, Vale manager John Askey is facing something of an injury crisis ahead of the match, and he had this to say ahead of the game:
“Whether it’s [the injuries] because we’ve got more athletic players who are very pacey, or it’s something that we’re doing or not doing in training, it’s something we need look at because we can’t afford to keep having players out.
“We’ll have to have a look [at the squad] Monday, Manny’s [Oyeleke] going to be training Monday, David Amoo, Jordan Archer, although I think Jordan will be a little bit longer.
“So we have got one or two coming back now, we’ll just have to see how the walking wounded are, and go from there on Monday.”
