Macclesfield Town make the journey to Cleethorpes to face Grimsby Town for the third time this season, as we look to avenge our Second Round Carabao Cup exit.
On this occasion we head to Blundell Park in Sky Bet League Two action after our midweek 1-1 draw against Newport County in the inaugural ‘Unsponsored Derby’.
This is what Daryl had to say ahead of the match:
We hope to see as many of you as possible make the journey with us to support the team and help push them onto what will hopefully prove to be a positive result against The Mariners.
As for our opponents, they have picked up four points since our Carabao Cup encounter; with a 2-2 draw away at Oldham followed by a 1-0 defeat away to Salford City on Tuesday evening.
This leaves Grimsby in 11th place in the Sky Bet League Two standings, ahead of us in 14th on goal-difference.
This is their first match at home since our Carabao Cup clash, and despite eventually claiming the victory that night courtesy of a penalty shootout, The Mariners have failed to record a home victory in 90 minutes since 24th August.
Opposition manager Michael Jolley had this to say ahead of the game:
“The game-and-a-half we’ve played with them so far has been very close and competitive between two closely-matched teams.
“So we’d expect a similar type of game, but of course we’re at home – it’s a game we want to try and get on the front foot in and try to win.
“It’s a game between two closely-matched teams – I definitely think they’ve improved their squad from last season.
“I think Daryl McMahon’s a good manager and doing a good job there.
“We saw the game they had against Newport County, and they were excellent in the week so it’s going to be another tough game for us.”
