Charlotte's Chat

26 September 2019

Our Tuesday night football this week saw us welcome several familiar faces back to the Moss wearing the gold of John Askey’s Port Vale side in the Leasing.Com Trophy.
There were also several changes to our side from our starting eleven which made the trip to Grimsby last Saturday.
The Valiants got us underway and were attacking the Star Lane End of the ground. The first chance of the game came to the visitors, but Reice Charles-Cook made a great save to keep it out.
This appeared to boost the team in their push forward, with several opportunities that just didn’t quite find their way in to the net. However in the 16th minute Joe Ironside scored his first goal of the season from open play with a clinical strike.
Macc continued on the attack looking to extend our lead, but one of those familiar faces wearing gold was to score the equaliser in the 33rd minute - Scott Burgess.
Vale took the lead on the 52nd minute when the ball took a wicked deflection and almost burst the back of the net.
It was hard to watch Vale score their third in the 77th minute, as I really did think that we would claw our way back into the game.
This seemed to wake our boys in blue up again though. Theo Archibald was causing all sorts of trouble, leaving his man on the wing when he got the chance and scored an amazing goal to reduce the arrears deep into injury-time.
Despite this, time ran out before we could find an equaliser.
We move on to Saturday now and the visit of Colchester - who will be another tough team especially as their confidence will be sky high following the result against Spurs on Tuesday!
See you there!
