Corey: "We Bounced Back Brilliantly"

19 September 2019

Macclesfield Town’s Corey O’Keefe says he was delighted to be named Man of the Match in his side’s 1-1 draw with Newport County - but wished his team had won the game.

“A point is a point and it could be the decisive one to get us into the play-offs. But we and the fans know that we could have had three.

"We had a lot of chances and hopefully we’ll start turning them into goals to get the three points."

Town went behind in the first minute of the match when Padraig Amond put the visitors ahead, before Emmanuel Osadebe equalised in the 19th minute.

“It’s hard to go a goal down straight away but we bounced back brilliantly. We got our goal then dominated, but we’ve got to be sharper out of the blocks.

"The fans were brilliant from start to finish. It’s great to play when it’s really loud. They encourage us when they cheer us on and I really love it.”

The Silkmen travel to Grimsby Town on Saturday, the team that knocked us out of the Carabao Cup less than two weeks ago.

“We played really well but we didn’t get what we deserved from the game. We owe them one now and we’ll try and win on Saturday” O’Keefe said.
