Returning midfielder Jak McCourt became the hero on Saturday afternoon when his curling free-kick won three vital points for the Silkmen on the road.
With the game looking destined for a draw, the playmaker came on to whip home an 85th minute set piece to the elation of the Macc fans inside Oldham’s Boundary Park.
Speaking to SilkmenTV after the game, Jak revealed his joy of returning from injury to guide the Silkmen to back-to-back league wins for only the second time this season.
Jak said: “It’s a massive three points and we’ve been saying for a while now that we need back-to-back wins to get us right up the table to where we want to be.”
“I’ve come on and scored the free kick but the graft the lads put in prior to that was fantastic, they’ve done all the hard work.”
“It’s nice to get a goal but the three points are the main thing. I’ve been injured for six or seven weeks so its great to get back out there and help to get the back-to-back wins.”
The result left Macc sitting sweetly in ninth position however the 24-year-old insisted that the Silkmen are doing all they can to push further up the table, citing the fans support as a real driving factor.
He said: “Its been a good season so far, we’re going steady and that’s what we want. We know where we can be and we’re always looking up and not looking back down. We’ve got a very young team but we’re fighting every week and that’s showing in the performances.”
“There is a massive chance to take this momentum into Tuesday’s game as it’s a very quick turnaround for Cheltenham, so hopefully we get the three points there aswell.”
“It’s another game away from home but we’ve showed today that we can win those games. It helps that the fans that come along sing their hearts out, they were brilliant again today. They deserve the win today and were absolutely made up for everybody involved in the club.”
