Daryl McMahon’s Macclesfield Town ended their four-match losing run on Saturday as they claimed a share of the spoils against Mansfield Town
We caught up Daryl after the game to gain his post-match thoughts –
He said: “The performance from the group was outstanding today, I’m definitely proud of the boys today.”
“Mansfield are a very good side, and they have an array of talent at their disposal. The two strikers that they brought on would get into any team in the division, but I thought we defended very well as a group.”
Mansfield fielded an attacking team which was led by former Crewe and Bury striker Nicky Maynard and we asked Daryl about how well the Macclesfield back line did in the game.
He said: “The back three were outstanding, and they have some top players I thought we defended really well against them.”
“We changed the shape at half time with Theo (Archibald) going off and I thought second half we were excellent and were unlucky to not grab a goal.”
The first ten minutes of the second half saw Macclesfield dominating the game and in many ways, all that was missing was a goal -
“We were great in that period and when you’re on top like that you do have to score. When we play with such dominance like that and I believe we do that against everyone we play, you’ve just got to turn it into a goal.”
“I’m proud of the performance and there has been lots of stuff going on in the media and I believe the boys put it to one side today and put on an outstanding performance. I couldn’t be prouder of them."
“Going through some of these circumstances that were facing at the minute, I’ve seen them grow up and they’re behaving like men and professionals, they’ve been excellent.”
