This season really has gone so fast and there was a little bit of sadness going to Port Vale last Saturday as I knew that we would not be back on the road until August.
We set off on the very short journey to Vale Park on the coach and I was running through all the different outcomes that could happen.
The teams are announced just as we approach the ground, but I just knew that regardless of the players picked we would get the result we needed!
We entered the ground and are instantly hit with a wall of noise. It instantly makes me more anxious for kick-off to come around.
The teams lined up and the noise increases once more - it was brilliant.
The game finally kicked off and the noise continues. Respectful chants in recognition of our previous manager were made and then we’re straight back to the job in hand of roaring our team on!
During the half news came through that Yeovil had taken the lead and the noise once more increased willing the players on.
The second half kicked off and the boys are attacking towards us. News continued to arrive from the other games and Reece Cole was very unlucky not to put us into the lead on 52 minutes.
Then on the 66th minute the deadlock was broken with a thunderbolt strike from David Fitzpatrick which fly’s in to the top left corner and almost bursts the net!
One-nil to the Silkmen and the scenes of happiness on the pitch is mirrored in the terraces - I’m sure the noise we made was heard back in Macc!
The game finished with a win for us and you know I didn’t look at the other scores till later on that night - I was too busy joining in the celebrations of been 3 points nearer to safety.
See you against Cambridge where we will hopefully get the final points we need.
