Although Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to MK Dons was filled with frustration, there was one silver lining Silkmen fans could take away with them after the match.
Ben Stephen’s made his long-awaited return from injury in the match and marked the occasion with the Man of the Match award.
Nathan Cameron’s goal in the first-half almost made it the perfect comeback, but MK’s promotion chasing potential was on display as they went on to take the three points.
After the game Ben Stephens spoke to Silkmen TV about a bittersweet afternoon.
“It feels good to be back,” said the forward.
“It’s been a long time coming, its been 10 weeks now as it was boxing day when I last played so I’m happy to be back playing and trying to help the team out.
“It feels good to be named man of the match but it’s hard to take any positives from the game, I think I played quite well myself but it’s a team game and we’ve lost.
“I thought in the first half we were good, we conceded from a set-piece but other than that I thought we played well.
“We pressed well, and we had a few chances ourselves. I think first-half we were very good but second-half when that second goal went in, we conceded two sloppy goals and there was no way back for us.”
League Two looks to be going down to the wire at both ends of the table and with the league already proving that anyone can beat anyone, three points are up for grabs in all the remaining games.
However, despite a frustrating string of results, Stephens says that he and the whole squad are up for the fight.
“We’re all feeling down in the dressing room after the result but we’re all up for the fight.
“If there’s anyone that’s not up for the fight then you can’t be here, so we’ve all got to stick together and now you either sink or swim. So, we’re all trying to be positive.”
Stephens knows how important the fans’ support can be on and he had one final rallying call to the Moss Rose faithful.
“Stick with us and stay with us, we’re trying our hardest you can see that everyone’s putting everything in on that pitch. Stay with us and try to be positive.”
