Macclesfield Town Under 18s secured the Mid Cheshire League Division One title this afternoon, as goals from Mohammed Duran and Joe Cobey saw off Davenham at Egerton Youth Club.
Played in blustery conditions, the home side went on the offensive right from the first whistle as Cobey burst through the visitor's defence before seeing his powerful drive saved by the feet of Liam Wilson.
With ten minutes on the clock, Kane Nolan's mesmerising run saw him cut inside from the right and his delicate through-ball was ferociously hit onto the top of the crossbar by Jake Hall.
The young Silkmen side were unquestionably dominating both territory and possession - reducing Davenham to speculative efforts which did little to trouble Jack Reynolds in the home goal.
Just before the half-hour mark the dangerous Cobey spread the ball over to the right hand side, where Sam Jordan's tantalising cross was tapped in at the far post by Duran to give Macc a deserved lead.
Four minutes later our advantage could well have been doubled, as Cobey breached the offside trap and was unlucky to see his effort superbly blocked by the advancing Wilson.
Davenham's first real opportunity came right on the stroke of half-time, as Tom Gough's twenty-five yard free quick sailed marginally over Reynolds' bar.
The second period began with Davenham intent on spoiling the party and just four minutes after the restart Gough stormed through on goal before forcing Reynolds' into a phenomenal save low down to his left.
For a time, the match developed into a captivating end to end encounter with both sides intent on playing intricate, attacking football. Despite this, it was the hosts who managed to carve out the best chances as they looked to secure a crucial second goal.
On 63 minutes Kane Nolan left his marker for dead, before cutting in from the right and seeing his powerful drive agonisingly fly inches over the bar.
Twelve minutes later, the commanding Dan Dolling launched an innovative ball over the Davenham backline and this was seized upon by Jordan, who calmly took it over the advancing Wilson but just over the bar in the process.
With eleven minutes left on the clock the game effectively ended as a contest, as Duran was adjudged to have been fouled in the penalty area and the referee pointed to the spot. Up stepped Cobey, who calmly sent Wilson the wrong way to secure the title-winning victory.
