Around League Two

26 June 2019

As clubs around the country begin their pre-season programmes, we take a look at the news around Sky Bet League Two…

Bantams Sign Former Premier League Striker

Bradford City have signed former Everton and Sunderland striker James Vaughan on a three-year deal.

The 30-year-old joins on a free transfer after being released by Wigan in May, having spent the second half of last season on loan at Portsmouth.

Vaughan made headlines on his Premier League debut in 2005 when he became the leagues youngest goal scorer at 16 years and 271 days – a record he still holds to this day.

The striker becomes the Bantams ninth summer signing after relegation from League One last season.

Nigerian Forward Signs For Mariners

Grimsby Town have announced the signing of Moses Ogbu on a one-year contract from United Arab Emirates side Al Ain.

Ogbu has spent much of his career in Sweden and has faced his new boss Michael Jolley before in the Swedish Allsvenskan.

The 28-year-old scored 53 times for Swedish side IK Sirius over nine years at the club, but said he is ready for life in Sky Bet League Two at his unveiling yesterday.

Attacking Duo Leave Pilgrims

Striker Freddie Ladapo and midfielder Ruben Lameiras have left newly-relegated Plymouth Argyle.

Ladapo, who scored 18 in 45 appearances last season, leaves for Rotherham United in a reported club record fee.

The 26-year-old signs for the South Yorkshire club after becoming the Pilgrim's top goalscorer for the 2018/19 season.

Meanwhile, Portuguese playmaker Lameiras has rejected a new deal at Home Park in favour of a move to the Primeira Liga in Portugal.

Recently promoted FC Famalicao swooped to sign the 24-year-old who scored 18 goals in two seasons at Plymouth.
